The New Columnist was originally formed in 2011 as Voices for Intellectual Independence (VII) with the objective of exploring alternatives to academia while providing a fresh take on current events. As an ambitious startup, we do realize time & resources are limited. It is our mission to maximize our impact using creative insight unique to our advocacy for social conservatism concertedly with the Muslim-American Experience in the United States.

In March of 2022, VII was relaunched as the New Columnist with long term aspirations of becoming a leading non-government organization globally using “columnist activism” as our primary foundation from contributing authors.
The New Columnist is dedicated to exploring solutions to dynamic problems. Nothing is as simple as it seems, but since 2011, we realized simplicity is best captured by an editorial policy punctuated by efficiency & succinctness. For every question turned exposed problem, our working objective will remain committed to inspiring reciprocal solutions wherever & whenever found. Our experience has proved problems turned questions evolve solutions. Therefore, we believe refined solutions developed over time originate from the rawest of questions turned burning curiosities.
As far as mapping alternatives to academia is concerned, our primary focus will remain centered on producing editorial columns dedicated to allowing students to test out of their degree programs provided they can demonstrate & prove fluid competency in fields related to arts, humanities, & select material sciences. Our advocacy for academic reform is defined by awakening & empowering our inner autodidact.
The New Columnist aspires to be an incubator of critical thinking worldwide. It may prove impossible to change the world with editorial columns alone, but it is our belief one can at least inspire a better one.
